Cassab, Judy (1920- ) , Australian painter, known for her abstract works and her portraits. Born in Vienna, Austria, Cassab studied painting in Prague (now in the Czech Republic) in 1939 and later, from 1945 to 1949, in Budapest, Hungary. In 1951 she moved with her family to Sydney, Australia, where she soon established a reputation both as an abstract painter and as a portraitist. Her portraits, influenced by expressionism, include likenesses of many distinguished Australians, especially artists, writers, musicians, and actors. Cassab has won numerous awards for her work, which is represented in the Australian National Gallery, in most Australian state galleries, and in private collections worldwide.
