(1935- ) , Bulgarian-born American artist whose "wrapped" objects are among the most extreme examples of modern conceptual art and the form known as earthworks. He lived in France from 1958 to 1964, when he went to the United States. His early works were empaquetages, in which he packaged bottles, cans, or boxes in cloth or plastic. More recent constructions include Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980-83;The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris, 1975-85;The Umbrellas, Japan-USA, 1984-91; and Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin, 1971-95.
