La Grenouillere, 1869
The small sircular island with its single tree was nicknamed the "Flowerpot"
(or the "Cemembert"), and for Monet and Renoir it provided an attractive subject for early
"Impressionist" work. Easel by easel they worked with the same subject -and their paintins,
similar though they naturally are, reveal the fundemental differences between the two artists.
